Changes in the surgery

As you will be aware from both local and national press, general practice is under increasing pressure from the high demand on our services. The reasons for the increased demand are many and varied but the effects are concerning, and you will be aware of practices closing lists and being unable to replace doctors as a consequence of this.

 

In an effort to protect our practice and its staff and to continue to provide a prompt and high standard of service, we are implementing changes from the beginning of November.

 

When you phone the practice you will be asked if you require a routine or emergency appointment. A routine appointment required by yourself or indicated in a letter you have received will be booked by the receptionist.

We will have more routine appointments available, released every 2 days. An emergency appointment request will be booked that day or screened by the on call doctor as happens currently.

 

You will be asked if your call is concerning an urgent prescription or results enquiry and your details will be taken and you will be phoned back about these. You will be given a results slot to speak to a doctor if you receive a letter indicating that is required.

 

Other requests for fit for work certificates, whether we can do letters or forms etc will take up to 48 hours to be decided on and our reception staff will deal with this.

 

Any requests that come to the on call doctor that is not a medical issue and should have been dealt with by one of the other systems will NOT be dealt with by them and redirected to the appropriate person.

 

We thank you for your patience as we implement this new system and welcome any comments in the boxes provided at reception on both our sites.         

Patients Who Fail To Attend

Due to the dramatic increase in non attended GP and Nurse appointments, Family Medical Group have now implemented the following policy;

If you fail to attend 3 appointments within a 6 month period, you will be removed from our practice list.

Following the first and second non attended appointment, we will send you a letter.

Should a third non attendance occur during the 6 month period, you will then receive a letter advising you that you have been removed from our list. This letter will include details of how to register with another GP practice.

You will have 8 days from the date of the third letter before you are removed.

It is very unfortunate that we have had to implement these measures, but in todays climate where the demand for appointments is ever increasing, patients who book then fail to attend appointments are delaying the opportunity for others to see a health professional.

       Scottish Bowel Screening Service

This is a very important service as bowel cancer is the third most common cancer in Scotland.

The service is open to any man or woman aged between 50-74years.

You should automatically be sent a testing kit every 2 years around the time of your birthday. If this does not happen please call 0800 0121 833 to request a kit.
